A man has died after being attacked in a park in the east end of Glasgow.

Strathclyde Police said officers were alerted at about 22:50 on Saturday after a man was found seriously injured near Gilbertfield Street in Ruchazie.

The 31-year-old man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary but died a short time later.

A post mortem examination is to be carried out later, but detectives have confirmed that they are treating the case as a murder inquiry.

Det Ch Insp Robbie Allan, who is leading the investigation, said: "Forensic inquiries are ongoing at the scene and detectives are in the local area carrying out door to door inquiries and gathering CCTV footage in an effort to gather more information on this crime."

Mr Allan urged any witnesses to contact Shettleston police office or Crimestoppers.
