James Thompson Findlay murdered in Port Glasgow flat
Police have confirmed that a 33-year-old man whose body was found at a flat in Inverclyde last week was murdered.
James Findlay's body was found at his home in Maxwell Street, Port Glasgow, on 21 October. Police said he had died a few days previously.
Officers want to trace a man who called emergency services on 18 October to say a man had been "violently assaulted" during a disturbance in Maxwell Street.
Police said officers attended this call but found no trace of any disturbance.
Det Insp Colin Carey, of Strathclyde Police, said: "Inquiries have revealed that James died a few days prior to officers discovering his body at his home in the early hours of Friday morning.
"We do know that in the early hours of Tuesday 18 October, a call was made to the emergency services by a man who stated that there was a disturbance in Maxwell Street. The man also said that a man had been violently assaulted.
"Emergency services and police officers attended Maxwell Street shortly after the call was made, however, after investigation, there was no trace of any potential disturbance."
Det Insp Carey urged the man who made the emergency call to get in touch "urgently".
He added: "They may have vital information that would help with this inquiry.
"I would also like to speak to anyone who may have information or who may have witnessed anything suspicious on Maxwell Street in the early hours of Tuesday 18 October and the days leading up to Friday 21 October."
