Inverclyde Council elects new leader
Inverclyde Council has elected a new leader - Councillor Iain McKenzie.
He replaces Councillor Stephen McCabe, who resigned earlier this month to spend more time with his family.
Councillor McKenzie, who was elected to the Inverclyde South ward in 2003, also replaces Councillor McCabe as Labour group leader.
He said he was ready to continue work to transform the area and "build on the many efforts to improve the lives of our communities".
Councillor McKenzie said: "We face a tough challenge in these uncertain economic times but Inverclyde is well placed to meet those challenges head-on and continue to make a real and positive difference.
"I would like to thank Councillor McCabe for his tremendous achievements as leader over the past four years.
"Under his guidance we have set in motion a £200m building and refurbishment programme in our schools, promised £20m for new leisure facilities and set up the urban regeneration company, Riverside Inverclyde."
