Police have named a man who died after a "violent attack" in his North Lanarkshire home on Friday.

Emergency services found 63-year-old David Goodhall badly injured in his flat in Airdrie's Laggan Road. He died later in Monklands General Hospital.

Strathclyde Police said his death was being treated as murder.

The force said he was attacked between 1500 GMT and 2125 GMT and appealed for anyone who saw or heard a disturbance between those times to contact them.

Det Insp Duncan Hamilton is leading the inquiry.

He said: "We are confident that the answer lies within the community.

"We would ask anyone with any information at all to please get in touch - no matter how insignificant it may seem, the information you have could be vital to the inquiry and tracing the person or people responsible for the death of this man."
