A new bypass being built as part of the M80 upgrade project will be open to traffic from 7 February.

The new Moodiesburn Bypass from Hornshill to Mollinsburn has been described as a "major milestone".

It is a key part of the £320m project to upgrade an 11-mile stretch of the A80(M) between Stepps and Haggs.

The bypass will initially open to northbound traffic only and is expected to open to southbound traffic about a week later.

Temporary traffic restrictions will be in place over the length of the new bypass until Summer 2011.

This will include a reduced 40mph speed limit - enforced with average speed cameras - in order to protect road users and the project workforce.
