Masked man robs Glasgow bookmaker

A man is being sought by police following a robbery at a bookmakers in Glasgow's south-side.

A masked man entered Tote Sport in Shieldhall Road and held up a black holdall, which staff believed to contain a firearm, before making off with a three figure sum of money.

Strathclyde Police said the robbery happened at about 1715 GMT on Friday.

Two male members of staff, aged 18 and 45, were uninjured though shaken by the incident.

It is thought the robber headed left along Shieldhall Road towards the roundabout near the Clyde tunnel.

He is described as a white male, slim build, about 6ft tall, in his early 20s, and wearing a dark camouflage jacket. He hid his face with a black balaclava.

Busy area

Officers have searched the area and are currently analysing CCTV.

Pc Kris Elliot said: "The bookmaker's is situated beside several other shops on Shieldhall Road just a few minutes walk to the slip road that leads to the Clyde tunnel.

"The area is always very busy at this time with people heading home from work, so we are hopeful someone may have unwittingly seen the suspect as he ran off from the crime scene."

He urged anyone who saw a man fitting the description in the area at the time of the robbery to contact the police.
