Jet2 to create 150 jobs at Glasgow Airport
Budget airline Jet2 is to set up a base at Glasgow Airport creating 150 jobs.
The move will see it start services to nine holiday destinations - Alicante, Dalaman, Faro, Monastir, Nice, Palma, Paphos, Sharm el Sheikh and Tenerife.
Glasgow Airport said the news was an encouraging sign for the industry following drops in passenger numbers.
Jet2 chose to establish the new Glasgow base rather than expand further in Manchester or Leeds. The airline already flies out of Edinburgh.
Among the new posts being created are nine maintenance jobs which are being part-funded by £150,000 from Scottish Enterprise's Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) scheme.
Announcing the jobs, Scottish Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson said: "This is a tremendous boost for Glasgow Airport, linking the city to new destinations and creating 150 jobs.
"I am particularly pleased that Scottish Enterprise has been able to offer RSA towards the creation of high-value maintenance jobs.
"This follows the excellent work of Scottish Development International in persuading Jet2 to establish these new jobs in Glasgow in the face of competition from other parts of the UK."
