Police in Greenock are appealing for information following an assault on two men by a gang wielding bladed weapons.

A 45-year-old and 37-year-old man were attacked at about 2000 BST on Sunday in the Inverclyde town.

The pair were in a car on Wren Road when they were attacked and seriously assaulted by a group of men.

Both men were taken to Inverclyde Royal Infirmary where the 45-year-old was kept in overnight and the 37-year-old was discharged after treatment.

"I would ask anyone with any information on this attack to come forward to the police."
