Police appeal after wilful fire-raising at Glenrothes industrial estate
Police have appealed for information after a huge fire was started deliberately at an industrial estate in Fife.
At least 40 firefighters tackled the blaze overnight at a unit on the Southfield Industrial Estate in Glenrothes.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Police Scotland said two disused premises were extensively damaged. A joint investigation is under way with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
Sgt Kirk Donnelly, of Glenrothes Police Station, said: "This was a hugely reckless act which has resulted in damage to property, with other neighbouring business premises also at risk of being damaged.
"I'd urge anyone who may have seen suspicious behaviour in the area in recent days, or who has any information about this fire, to contact us as soon as possible. I want to reassure the community that all efforts will be made to trace the people responsible.
"We are also continuing to investigate a small number of other fire-raisings which have occurred recently in the town. However, it is not believed at this time that these incidents are linked and Glenrothes CID continue to follow several positive lines of inquiry."
