A police investigation has been launched after a teenager was attacked by a man in Midlothian.
The 18-year-old was seriously assaulted at about 12:30 on Sunday in Eastfield Farm Road, near the Subaru garage in Penicuik.
He was walking with a 19-year-old woman when they got into a row with two men in their 30s. One of the men then attacked the teenager.
The 18-year-old sustained a serious facial injury requiring surgery.
The first man, who assaulted the 18-year-old, was white, about 5ft 10in, of large build, with brown hair and facial hair.
The second man was also white and about 5ft 10in. He was of slim build with greasy mid-length brown hair. He was also clean shaven.
Det Con Kenny McKenzie said: "This was a vicious attack on a young man, which has left him with injuries which will take a long time to heal.
"We are eager to trace the two men who were within that area at that time as soon as possible.
"I would ask anyone who was in the Eastfield Farm Road area, and saw anything suspicious, to get in touch with police immediately."
