A thief who fired an airgun and threatened staff during an attempted armed robbery in an East Lothian shop is being sought by police.

'Extremely serious'

The suspect was white, 5ft 10in tall and of stocky build.

He was wearing a red hooded top with the hood up, a balaclava, a three-quarter length black coat, dark trousers, dark gloves and dark shoes.

Ch Insp Matt Paden, of Police Scotland, said: "Fortunately no-one was seriously injured in this incident but the discharge of any weapon during the course of a crime is an extremely serious matter.
