Police are investigating a sex attack on a 17-year-old girl as she travelled on a bus in East Lothian.

The teenager was assaulted by a male passenger on the 107 East Coast Buses service to Dunbar after boarding in Haddington at about 18:30 on Wednesday.

Following the attack, police said the man got off the bus on Mill Wynd in East Linton.

The attacker is described as being in his 40s and had a muscular build and short cropped hair.

He was wearing a grey hooded top with loose jeans and was also carrying a dark blue bag.

'Upsetting ordeal'

Police said the girl boarded the bus at Market Street in Haddington and was then assaulted by the man.

He then moved to the front of the bus before getting off at the bus stop on Mill Wynd. Police said he then walked away in an unknown direction.

Sgt David Aitchison said: "This was a very upsetting ordeal for the 17-year-old victim and it is important that we trace the man responsible as soon as possible.

"I would urge anyone who was on the number 107 East Coast bus on Wednesday, 14 December, and remembers this incident, or recognises the suspect description, to get in touch with us immediately."
