Bathgate knife attack treated as attempted murder

A stabbing outside a West Lothian gym is now being treated as attempted murder by police.

A 26-year-old man was seriously injured during the assault at 13.45 on Tuesday at the Muscle Asylum gym on King Street, Bathgate.

The man is being treated in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Det Insp Steven Bertram, of Police Scotland, said: "This assault left a man with serious injuries and we are treating it as an attempted murder."

He added: "While we do have a positive line of inquiry, we are still keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the assault or who has any information that can assist us with our inquiries."

Ch Insp Barry Blair, of Police Scotland, said: "I would like to reassure the local community that this is an isolated and unusual incident.

"Nevertheless, we will be conducting additional high-visibility patrols in the King Street area for the immediate future."
