Scotland and Celtic footballer Scott Brown officially opened a new sports hall at an Edinburgh primary school.

Brown cut the ribbon on the new £1m building at Cramond Primary School with head teacher Helen Donaldson and eight P7 house captains.

Cramond was one of four primary schools, including East Craigs, Towerbank and Sciennes, to get new sports halls or dining room extensions.

The extensions are to meet free school meal requirements for all P1 to P3s.

The old school hall had previously doubled up as a dining room and was used for other school activities which limited the time for sport and PE activities.

Mrs Donaldson said the new sports hall had invigorated the whole school community since opening three weeks ago.

She said: "Pupils, staff and parents have been blown away by the quality of the new sports hall and it's already having a positive impact on pupil health and wellbeing.

"There's a real sense of excitement around the school as we now have a purpose-built sports hall for everyone to use."
