A gang of five thieves are being sought for a series of break-ins at the weekend in a Midlothian town.

The incidents happened overnight between Saturday and Sunday at six homes in Dalkeith.

Five houses in Saint Mary's Court were broken into between 02:00 and 06:30 on Sunday.

Another home in St Andrew Street is believed to have been broken into between 18:00 on Saturday and 00:20 on Sunday.

Nothing was taken in the St Andrew Street break in.

A blue Audi A1 car was taken from one of the addresses in Saint Mary's Court, along with a bike from another.

The five thieves then left the area in the Audi, which was eventually recovered on Sunday in Bogwood Road, Mayfield.

Det Insp Paul Batten, of Police Scotland, said: "These youths looked to steal high value items and succeeded.

"We are eager to trace them as soon as possible.

"I would ask anyone who was in the Dalkeith area over the weekend and saw either the five suspects or the car described to get in touch with us immediately."
