Witness sought for 'bus robbery bid' in Edinburgh

A man who saw an alleged attempted robbery on a bus in Edinburgh is being sought by police.

The incident happened at about 19.15 on Wednesday 26 October on board the number 25 bus, travelling between Leith Walk and Dalry Road.

Steven Middlemass, 39, appeared in private on Thursday at Edinburgh Sheriff Court charged in connection with the incident.

The witness is white, in his 30s, 5ft 10in to 6ft and of medium build.

He has shaved hair.

At the time, he was wearing a black hooded insulated jacket which had a lighter trim, black trousers, and dark trainers with a lighter coloured sole.

He was carrying a black Nike drawstring bag and a bottle of water. He was last seen leaving the bus at Dalry Road.

Det Con Gavin Howat, of Police Scotland, stressed the man was a witness and not a suspect.

He said: "We've conducted inquiries and collected evidence but we're still eager to speak to this man about the incident.

"We would urge him to get in touch with us or anyone who can help us trace him is asked to come forward."
