Man, 42, dies after fire at block of flats in East Wemyss

A 42-year-old man has died after a fire at a block of flats in Fife.

Emergency services were called to Sir Jimmy Shand Court in East Wemyss at about 10:30 on Saturday when a neighbour raised the alarm.

The man was brought from a ground floor flat but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Scotland said neighbouring flats were also evacuated as a precuationary measure while fire crews extinguished the flames.

A joint investigation between Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is underway to establish the cause of the fire.

Det Ch Insp Graham Fenton, based at Glenrothes police station, said: "This is a tragic incident that has resulted in the death of a 42-year-old man.

"Our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.

"A thorough and robust investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway. However, the incident is being treated as non-suspicious at this time."
