Dump truck thieves cause £80,000 damage in Gorebridge

Thieves who stole a dump truck from a Midlothian sewage works caused about £80,000 of damage during the raid, police have said.

The theft happened at the Station Road site in Gorebridge sometime between 12:30 on Saturday and 07:30 on Monday.

The damage was caused by the thieves as they drove the truck away. The vehicle was later found abandoned nearby.

A JCB digger, forklift digger and another dump truck were also broken into during the incident.

Sgt Stuart Aitchison, of Police Scotland, said: "As a result of this break-in, the attempted theft of several plant vehicles and the successful theft of one dumper truck, approximately £80,000 worth of damage has been caused and we are pursuing various lines of inquiry to trace whoever was responsible.

"If you remember seeing any suspicious activity around the site over the weekend or in the early hours of Monday morning then please contact police immediately.

"In addition, anyone with any further information that can help with our investigation is also asked to come forward."
