A pedestrian has been killed after being hit by a van in Kirkcaldy.

The 74-year-old man was knocked down by the white Ford Transit van, which was travelling east on Invertiel Road (B9157), at about 00:30.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. A local diversion was in place via the Jawbanes Road.

Insp Brenda Sinclair, of Police Scotland, said: "Our condolences are with the family of the man who sadly died."

She added: "I would appeal to anyone who was travelling on the B9157 around midnight or late last night who might have seen a man wearing dark clothing walking on that route, or who may have seen a white Ford Transit van travelling towards Kirkcaldy, to get in touch.

"Road closures are still in place while inquiries are conducted at the scene, and I want to thank the public for their patience at this time."
