A number of vehicles have been damaged after objects were thrown on to the Edinburgh city bypass.

There were no injuries in the attacks, which involved objects being thrown from the Baberton flyover.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the incidents which happened between 01:30 and 02:00 on Friday.

There was "extensive" damage caused to the windscreens and bodies of at least seven cars and lorries travelling on the A720.

Insp Liz Duthie, of Police Scotland, said: "This was completely reckless and showed a total disregard for the safety of travelling motorists.

"Officers attended at the time and utilised local and specialist resources to conduct searches in the area, however, inquiries continue to trace the perpetrators.

"There will be an increase in high-visibility patrols in this area for the foreseeable future to deter any further incidents and we're asking anyone with information, or who may have seen anyone in the area of the flyover around this time, to come forward."
