Police are appealing for information after a man approached two 10-year-old girls in Fife.

The incident, which police have described as suspicious, happened on Backmarch Road, Rosyth, at about 15:30 on Wednesday.

The girls were standing on a pavement when the man tried to engage them in conversation.

The girls left the area and headed towards Queensferry Road before informing their parents.

The man was last seen heading towards Admirality Road.

He was described as being aged between 35 and 45, of average height, with bushy greying hair, and was wearing a neck chain, a dark jumper or jacket and grey trousers.

Sgt Gordon Hood said: "We're eager to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident. Anyone who recognises the description of the man, or saw him in the area around this time, is asked to come forward.

"Likewise, anyone with further information that may be able to assist with our inquiries is urged to get in touch.

"There will be an increase in high visibility patrols in the local area over the coming days to reassure the community, and anyone with concerns is welcome to speak to local officers, visit their nearest station or contact 101."
