A man accused of attempting to stab an Aberdeen man to death in Edinburgh has been acquitted.

Ryan Ellis, 31, had denied attempting to murder Peter Stewart, 44, last April.

He had also denied stabbing Mr Stewart's 46-year-old brother James during the incident.

The Crown withdrew the charges against Mr Ellis during a trial at the High Court in Livingston. A 17-year-old is still on trial.

The teenager - who cannot be identified for legal reasons - denies attempted murder and assault.

The trial, before Lord Glennie, continues.
