Police want to speak to a man who was wearing a black suit and red tie in connection with a serious assault near an Edinburgh city centre nightclub.

The "unprovoked attack" on a 23-year-old man happened in Hanover Street, near Garibaldi's nightclub, at about 03:00 on Saturday 28 November.

Police want to speak to a white man, in his early 20s, who is about 6ft tall, of slim build, with short brown hair.

Officers said the victim needed treatment for an injury to his face.

Det Con Graham McIlwraith said: "Given the time at which this incident took place, there were potentially a number of people leaving the various establishments in Hanover Street who may have witnessed the incident."

"Anyone who witnessed the assault or who can help identify the man pictured is asked to contact police immediately."
