Windsurfer safe after Fife coast rescue operation.
A windsurfer at the centre of a search and rescue operation off the Fife coast has turned up safe and well.
The alarm was raised by a member of the public who spotted the man apparently in difficulties near Crail at about 16:00 on Saturday.
Two lifeboats from Anstruther, two coastguard rescue teams and a helicopter from Prestwick joined the search.
A coastguard spokesman said the windsurfer had paddled himself ashore.
The spokesman said: "A member of the public thought the windsurfer was in difficulty but then lost sight of him.
"We deployed various search assets but the man paddled ashore. When he saw there was a rescue operation ongoing he phoned to say he was OK."
