Man slashes woman beggar in face on Edinburgh's Princes Street
A man who slashed a woman begging on Edinburgh's Princes Street in the face is being sought by police.
The incident happened at 18:00 on Tuesday at the Wellington statue on the east end of Princes Street.
A 25-year-old woman was approached by the man from the direction of the St James Centre before he attacked her.
The woman sustained a cut to her right cheek and the attacker made off up West Register Street before being lost to sight.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
The attacker was described as white, of slim build and was wearing a blacked hooded jumper.
Det Con Andy Cory, of Police Scotland, said: "This appears to have been a random and unprovoked attack, which left the victim with a painful injury to her face.
"Anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious on Princes Street on Tuesday evening is asked to contact police immediately."
