Arrest over spate of Musselburgh robberies

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a spate of robberies and an attack on an elderly woman in the Musselburgh area.

The incidents began on 4 October and in the most recent, on 4 December, an 82-year-old woman was pushed to the ground.

Police arrested the man at an address in the Musselburgh area and charged him in connection with seven incidents.

He is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.

Insp Andrew Harborow said: "We would like to thank the public for their high level of engagement and support , which has played a significant part in the arrest of this man.

"Whilst this man has been caught, we will continue to deploy additional resources to Musselburgh over the coming days .

"I would like to reassure the community that East Lothian remains a safe place, but would also advise people to take care of their belongings and remain vigilant , especially during the festive season."
