Two people have appeared in court charged with assaulting a taxi driver in Edinburgh in what police have described as a racist attack.

Kelli Smillie, 28, and Kevin Thomson, 34, both from Edinburgh, made no plea or declaration during a short private appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

They are accused of assaulting the 33-year-old cab driver on London Road at 04:00 on Sunday.
