The mother of a toddler has appeared in court with her partner charged with murdering the two-year-old boy in Fife.

Liam Johnson, also known as Liam Fee, was pronounced dead at his home in Donald Crescent, Thornton, on 22 March.

His mother Rachael Fee, 30, and Nyomi Fee, 27, are accused of murdering him as well as child cruelty.

They made no plea or declaration at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court and were remanded in custody.

A police investigation into the circumstances surrounding Liam's death has been ongoing.

A statement from the family at the time described the toddler as "a happy-go-lucky little boy, with blonde hair, big blue eyes and a cheeky smile".

The statement added: "He was very much loved by his family and will be deeply missed. Liam had his whole life ahead of him and we are devastated at our loss."
