Police issue safety advice after pensioner is attacked in her home

Police have issued safety advice after an elderly woman was attacked in her Edinburgh home.

Officers were called to the 85-year-old's house in the Morningside area at about 17:00 on Friday.

The woman was found with a number of injuries which were described as being "life threatening".

Police are urging local residents to insist on seeing a caller's identification and not to allow anyone in if they have any concerns.

Supt James Frame said: "I'd like to reassure the public that as well as a dedicated inquiry team investigating the incident, we have officers carrying out patrols in the Morningside area to reassure residents and deal with any concerns local people may have.

"We would also encourage residents to call us should they have concerns regarding anyone who calls on them unannounced in unusual circumstances or regarding anyone they perceive to be acting suspiciously around their home."
