Tandem woman badly injured in Gullane bicycle crash

A tandem rider is in a serious condition in hospital with head injuries after a crash with another bicycle in East Lothian.

The accident happened on Main Street in Gullane at about 17:40 on Saturday.

Police Scotland said the 54-year-old woman suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Western General Hospital in Edinburgh.

The other tandem rider, a 49-year-old man, suffered minor injuries. Police have appealed for witnesses.

A 16-year-old man who was riding the other bicycle was uninjured.

Sgt Neil Inglis said: "We are still trying to establish exactly what has happened to result in this serious injury collision and would like to hear from any motorists or members of the public who were on Main Street at the time."
