A cow contributed to traffic chaos for One Direction fans heading to their concert in Edinburgh after wandering on to the M8.

The startled calf caused long tailbacks from Junction 3 Livingston through to Hermiston Gait.

Traffic was already extremely slow as 60,000 fans of the boy band headed for the Murrayfield show.

There were also delays on the A8 Glasgow road to the airport and on Stagecoach services from Edinburgh.

Traffic Scotland tweeted: "Here is the culprit! Cow causing a havoc at J3 #M8 Livingston", along with a picture of the cow.
