Woman dies and four hurt in crash on A1 near Dunbar

A woman has died and four other people have been injured in a two-car crash on the A1 near Dunbar in East Lothian.

It happened near Torness Power Station at about 19:40 on Thursday and involved a Ford Ka and Ford Focus.

Police said a 21-year-old woman, who was passenger in the Ka, died at the scene.

Three of the injured were flown by RAF helicopter to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, with the fourth taken there by ambulance.

Firefighters had to use hydraulic cutting equipment to free the casualties from their vehicles.

The road was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

A spokesman said: "A 21-year-old female passenger, who was travelling within the Ka, sustained serious injuries and passed away at the scene.

"The 21-year-old female driver of the Ka and another female passenger, aged 20, were also taken to hospital along with the 23-year-old male driver and 20-year-old female passenger from the Focus after all occupants suffered various injuries.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has information that can assist police with their investigation is asked to come forward immediately."
