Edinburgh road rage driver sought by police

A driver who shunted another car before kicking and punching the vehicle during a road rage incident in Edinburgh is being sought by police.

A 36-year-old man was driving his BMW 316 west along South Gyle Broadway on 26 July when a man in a silver Vauxhall Vivaro van attempted to cut in front.

He began sounding his horn and gesturing aggressively before shunting the car at the traffic lights.

When the BMW stopped again the man got out of his van.

'Significant damage'

He began kicking and punching the car, leaving "significant damage" to door panels and a wing mirror.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

The driver was white, in his 30s, with a shaved head at the sides and bald on top.

Insp Andrew Gilhooley, of Police Scotland, said: "This was a very frightening experience for the victim and resulted in damage to his car.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who remembers travelling west along South Gyle Broadway on the evening of Friday 26th July and saw this van or can help identify its driver.

"Similarly, anyone with any other information relevant to this enquiry is also asked to come forward."
