Man in court over Carolyn Ellis' death in Edinburgh
A 28-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman at flats in Tollcross, Edinburgh.
Douglas Lawrence appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court charged with killing Carolyn Ellis, 32.
He appeared made no plea and declaration to the charge. He was also charged with two assaults and one assault to injury.
The court sent Mr Lawrence to the State Hospital at Carstairs to be assessed. He is due to appear again next week.
Ms Ellis died after being found with serious stab wounds when police were called to a disturbance in West Tollcross at about 18:20 on Tuesday.
In a statement, released through Lothian and Borders Police, her parents, Judy and Bernard, said: "Carolyn Ann was a wonderful and caring person who always made time for her family and many friends.
"She lit up the world of everyone she met and was very popular. No one ever had a bad word to say about her.
"As a family, we are devastated to have lost such a special daughter and sister and we would now ask for privacy as we try to come to terms with our grief."
