A teenager has been arrested and charged after about 400 cannabis plants with a street value of £120,000 were found in a Midlothian home.

The plants were seized from the property in Barley Bree, Dalkeith at 0750 GMT on Wednesday.

Lothian and Borders Police said a 17-year-old man had been arrested and charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court later. Police said inquiries are ongoing.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "This recovery was made following an intelligence-led search of the property and we are delighted to have seized such a large quantity of cannabis before it could reach our communities.

"As is always the case with our efforts to target drug dealers, the intelligence we receive from the public is vital and anyone with information relating to ongoing criminal activity in their area should contact police immediately."
