Bomb squad called to Edinburgh recycling centre

A recycling centre in Edinburgh was evacuated after a potentially explosive object was found within the waste.

Lothian and Borders Police were called to the Sighthill Community Recycling Centre at about 1300 GMT.

The Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) unit was called out from its hub on the west coast to the recycling centre on Bankhead Avenue.

The area was re-opened by late afternoon after it was established that the object was not explosive.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said the object contained "potentially explosive material" and a cordon was set up around the centre while officers from the EOD carried out an inspection.

Traffic was diverted away from the recycling centre during the procedure.
