A man has admitted using his mobile phone to film a five-year-old girl he was following around a supermarket.

Alan Forrest, 36, from Edinburgh, was spotted with his mobile phone at waist height, and was reported to a security guard by the child's father.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard the incident on 19 August 2010 was captured by CCTV cameras.

Sheriff Wendy Sheehan placed Forrest on the sex offenders register. He will be sentenced next month.

School uniform

Police were contacted during the incident and the shop's CCTV footage was examined.

Forrest admitted conducting himself in a disorderly manner, following and videoing the girl on his mobile phone, and committing a breach of the peace.

The girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had been wearing her school uniform out for the first time.

Fiscal depute Malcolm Stewart said: "When asked why he filmed a five-year-old girl he said 'I don't know I just do stupid things, maybe fantasy or something, obviously I'd never harm anyone'."

Mr Stewart said he was asked if he got gratification and Forrest replied "maybe just because of the uniform".

The fiscal added Forrest was also asked how often he did this and he said probably about once a week.

Sentence was deferred until February 25 pending background reports on Forrest.
