A chocolate factory-style tent and a games marquee have been added to the list of attractions for this year's Christmas celebrations in Edinburgh.

Revellers will have the chance to design their own chocolate bar at the workshop in Princes Street Gardens.

The 9mx9m marquee will feature a bank of Nintendo Wii consoles filled with the latest Christmas games.

The traditional German Christmas market will remain one of the key features of the winter festivities.

Light Night on 25 November will include street theatre and an aerial display to light Edinburgh's Christmas Tree. There will also be an outdoor ice-rink and the annual big wheel.

Cadbury and Nintendo are sponsoring this year's event.

Edinburgh's Lord Provost George Grubb, said: "Edinburgh at Christmas continues to be an enormous draw for visitors and residents alike, and research shows that it ranks high on the list of top places to celebrate the season.

"The city comes alive in a very special way and gives everyone the opportunity to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas as well as enjoying a great programme of events and attractions."

Alan Johnston, chairman of Dema, the body behind Edinburgh Sparkles, said: "Nowhere else can compare to this city at Christmas."
