The former artistic director of the Arches will take over at the National Theatre of Scotland.

Edinburgh born Jackie Wylie will take up her new post in the spring when current director Laurie Sansom steps down.

Ms Wylie has been working to create a new festival celebrating the Glasgow venue's artistic legacy since its closure in 2015.

She described the appointment as "an incredible privilege".

The National Theatre of Scotland is marking its 10th anniversary since its inception in 2006.

Ms Wylie will be the third director, and second woman, to hold the post.

Speaking to BBC Scotland's arts correspondent Pauline McLean, she promised to continue to innovate in bringing theatre to as wide an audience as possible.
