Search for missing man after car crash

Amar Sharif

A search has been launched for a man reported missing after crashing his car.

Amar Sharif, 43, was last seen shortly after his Hyundai saloon left the A92 near the Five Roads roundabout in north-east Fife.

He was spotted walking north towards the town of Wormit at about 03:30 on Sunday.

Police Scotland said no other car was involved in the accident but it was not clear if Mr Sharif was injured.

Sgt Tony Doriano, from St Andrews police station, said: "A search operation is now under way involving specialist teams including the dog unit in an effort to trace Amar safe and well.

"At this stage of our search, there is no evidence to suggest that Amar had suffered any serious injuries as a result of the collision however we won't know that for sure until we find him.

"I appeal to anyone who knows Amar or may have travelled in the area of the Five Roads Roundabout and who may have seen him to please contact police.

"Similarly I appeal directly to Amar to contact us and to let us know you are okay."

Mr Sharif is described as around 5ft 5ins and of a medium to stocky build with dark hair and stubble.

He was wearing a black jacket with orange trousers and a white t-shirt.

Anyone who has seen him is asked to contact police immediately.
