The first snowfalls of the season have been blown in across Scotland's higher summits.

The CairnGorm Mountain resort reported snow lying at the top of the mountain range near Aviemore as an icy blast swept parts of the country.

The Met Office outdoor forecast warned that with a colder polar airmass becoming established there would be some snow on the highest peaks.

Temperatures at Munro level were expected to be in the region of 3C.
