Most graduates in Scotland secure jobs or training

Almost nine in 10 higher education graduates in Scotland had a job or were in further training within six months of completing their course.

Scottish government statistics said that 70.4% of leavers had a job either in the UK or abroad, while 6.2% were believed to be unemployed.

The figures related to 2011-12.

Of those in UK employment, 75.1% worked in managerial and professional occupations.

Responding to the figures, Education Secretary Michael Russell said they showed the value of a university education, and that universities were leading the way.

He added: "We will continue to work with universities and businesses to help make sure Scottish graduates get access to the opportunities they need to make the most of their degree and play their role in Scotland's economic future."
