An EU ban on imports of mackerel and herring from the Faroe Islands is set to come into force in a week, it has been announced.
The measures could also prevent some Faroese boats from docking in EU ports.
However the action - being supported by Scottish trawlermen - has been condemned by the Faroese government, which is preparing a legal challenge.
It comes amid claims the country is guilty of over-fishing mackerel and herring.
Scottish fishing industry leaders have described the ban as a "wake-up call".
