Man critically injured in Johnstone baseball bat attack

A man is in a critical condition with head injuries after he was assaulted with a baseball bat.

The 31-year-old was attacked at about 01:35am in Craigenfeoch Avenue, Johnstone, Renfrewshire.

The victim, who was with a group of friends when the attack happened, was taken to Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.

Det Insp Mark McGowan, of Strathclyde Police, said the attack was being treated as attempted murder.

He added: "At the moment it is not clear what the motive was for the assault but it's imperative we trace the man responsible.

"I would appeal to local people in the community to get in touch with us with any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem. It could prove vital in helping us trace the man responsible for this violent attack."

The suspect is described as about 35 years old, of stocky build and wearing dark clothes. He left in a car heading towards Greenend Avenue.
