Police car overturns into field

Two police officers have been taken to hospital after their car came off the road and ended up overturned in a field in the Borders.

Their Volvo had been heading north on the A703 Peebles to Leadburn road at about 1700 GMT on Monday.

It careered across the carriageway and landed on its roof in the field. The extent of their injuries was not known.

The accident happened at a spot between the entrance to the Glenrath chicken factory and the Leadburn crossroads.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said:"We are dealing with an incident.

"But at this stage we cannot make any comment on what has happened."

Earlier an 83-year-old man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with neck injuries after a two-car collision on the A702 road near the village of Carlops.

A woman and a boy in the other vehicle were uninjured.
