Two people were left in a critical condition and three others were seriously injured after a fire at a caravan park in Moray.

Fire crews went to Beechtree caravan park in Keith at 0530 BST on Sunday after reports of an explosion.

The blaze destroyed a wooden chalet and caused damage to neighbouring ones.

A sixth person, who was not in the chalet, was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.

Five people from the chalet were found outside with serious injuries when firefighters arrived.

Cause unexplained

Garry Burnett, of Grampian Fire and Rescue Service, said: "They had a range of burns and the five have been taken to hospital by air ambulance and ambulance."

The fire was so severe it caused parts of a neighbouring building several yards away to melt.

As a precaution, Grampian Police took the decision to evacuate the whole site.

The cause of the incident is being treated as unexplained.
