A Tory MP alleged by the Daily Telegraph to have exploited contacts to set up business deals in Albania says he plans to sue the newspaper.

Mark Pritchard told the Sunday Politics he was in "final legal discussions about issuing a writ" over the claims.

Parliament's standards watchdog this week said there was insufficient evidence to mount an investigation into the newspaper's allegations.

The MP for the Wrekin in Shropshire is on the all-party group for Albania.

The Telegraph reported that he had told an undercover reporter posing as a businessman that he should invest £10m in a group of boutique hotels in the country.

According to the terms described by the newspaper, this would have netted Mr Pritchard more than £300,000.

But there was no suggestion the MP was willing to support deals in Parliament.

Mr Pritchard told the newspaper's undercover reporter that he did not lobby, and no money changed hands.

Mr Pritchard told BBC One's Sunday Politics: "These sort of headlines create suspicion.

"I am suing the Telegraph and I expect an apology, and I don't wish to prejudice legal proceedings here today.

"I am in final legal discussions tomorrow about issuing a writ."
