The Education Secretary Michael Gove has announced that modular GCSE exams will be scrapped from September next year.

Students beginning GCSEs in 2012 will sit final exams for all modules at the end of the two year course.

Speaking on The Andrew Marr Show Michael Gove said children now are "competing with children and young people in Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, in all of these nations their education system is changing and we've got to keep pace."
