A 30-year-old man, who was released from prison last month, has appeared at Londonderry Magistrates Court charged with burgling a house in Limavady.

Christopher Mallett, from Gorteen Crescent in Limavady, is accused of burgling a house at Drumceatt Park in the town.

The burglary allegedly happened on 24 September.

He is also charged with stealing a car, a set of car keys and computer tablets.

The defendant is alleged to have committed the offences one week after he was put on probation for two years for burgling another house.

A police officer told District Judge Barney McElholm that he could connect the defendant to the charge.

A defence solicitor said he had been instructed not to make a bail application and the defendant was remanded in custody until 24 October for a video link hearing.
