Newtownbutler security alert was elaborate hoax


A security alert in Newtownbutler, County Fermanagh, was an "elaborate hoax", police have confirmed.

Police were called to the Wattlebridge Road on Sunday afternoon after a suspicious object was found.

After the object was examined, it was declared a hoax.

Police also dealt with a security alert in Ballymena, County Antrim, on Sunday.

Homes were evacuated after a suspicious object was found in Rosses Meadows.

A bomb disposal team attended the scene and removed what was believed to have been a practice grenade.
